Buzz Aldrin Is Selling Mementos from Apollo 11 and His Time in Space

Buzz Aldrin, who is known as the second person to step on the Moon, has decided to part with some of his artifacts from the Gemini XII and Apollo 11 missions. Now, space fans will get an opportunity to own a piece of history because Aldrin is about to auction his artifacts. This will occur during The Buzz Aldrin: American Icon auction on July 26 through Sotheby’s. The auction will feature items like a jacket Aldrin wore on the journey to the Moon, a flown lunar surface checklist and flight plan pages, a Go Army, Beat Navy banner that he wore on his spacewalk during Gemini XII and exposed to the vacuum of space.

Buzz Aldrin Is Auctioning His Mementos from Earth and Space

Along with the items that Buzz Aldrin carried with him into space, the astronaut will also sell some of the mementos he earned on Earth. These include his Presidential Medal of Freedom and MTV VMA award statuette. Sotheby’s auction house will proudly present a wide array of items from the legendary Apollo 11 astronaut, just as they wrote on their website. The message also stated that the items include pieces instrumental during the Apollo 11 mission, like clothing worn on lunar missions and storied ephemera from Buzz’s time in space.

Buzz Aldrin Is the Last Surviving Member of the Apolo 11 Mission

July 1969 was when Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins, and Neil Armstrong went to the Moon for the Apollo 11 mission. Collins remained in orbit to pilot the command module while Armstrong and Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the surface of the Moon. Currently, Aldrin is the last surviving member of the crew of Apollo 11 member.
