Some movies stay iconic as the decades pass, and one such classic is Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, commonly referred to as “Brandy’s Cinderella” due to her perfection as Cinderella.  Let’s take a look at what Brandy has to say about the 1997 film.

Cinderella Makes History

To date, Cinderella has only been played by one African-American famous actress, Brandy. Brandy, now 42, played Cinderella when she was 18 and continued the theme of the movie by showing up to the premiere in a stunning white embroidered gown that showed everyone that she was indeed a princess.

Brandy’s fairy godmother was played by the late singer and actress Whitney Houston, who almost stole the show with her acting skills. Queen Constantina was portrayed by none other than Whoopi Goldberg, and legendary actor Victor Garber played King Maximillian. This all-star-studded cast was bound to make the movie a hit that still thrills audiences to this day.

Childhood Dream Coming True

Before the part came up, Brandy said in an interview that she knew from an early age what she wanted to be. However, having the chance to star in a role next to her idol, Houston, was a dream come true. The movie aired in 1997 and soon became the most-watched movie, clocking over 60 million viewers. It later went on to win seven Emmy nominations.
