IKEA Is in Collab with Marimekko to Create the BASTUA Collection

IKEA has a long list of comfortable, cozy, and pretty straightforward Nordic design principles in its products. However, the company recently announced its partnership with Marimekko. It’s a Finnish design brand that elevates the Swedish furniture company’s ideas to a whole new level. Fans of both companies are sure to be delighted with the results of Marimekko’s and IKEA’s collaboration to produce the BASTUA collection.

The collaboration was announced on February 9th, and the products will be available in all IKEA stores starting in March 2023. If you know Marimekko, you might expect printmaking and patterns, and this is exactly what this collaboration includes – 26 products ranging from glassware to furniture to bright prints and fabrics.

Botanical Prints & More

BASTUA, the result of the joint venture between IKEA and Marimekko, is a reflection of both companies’ design philosophies with a focus on Nordic wellness, nature, and self-care practices. There is nothing quite like the self-care ritual of enjoying a sauna, and the items in the collection were designed to fit into and channel the whole experience, as well as post- and pre-sauna activities, like enjoying a light meal. The name of the collection is derived from a term used to describe saunas in the Southern Sweden region where IKEA was founded.

Marimekko has created its first collection of designs for a brand collaboration with IKEA. The centerpiece of the collection is a botanical print that perfectly complements the love of nature of the line. It was greatly inspired by the aesthetically pleasing rhubarb that occasionally grows next to sauna structures.

Self-Care Routines on a New Level

Even though the BASTUA collection will not be available anytime soon, Marimekko and IKEA have already released pictures, and fans of the understated beauty will find much to love. It includes exquisite sculptural glassware, furniture like a bench or a side table, towels, robes, and even a sauna bucket, with a new version of the iconic IKEA FRAKTA bag taking center stage. Any area will benefit from having a great atmosphere, no matter whether there is a sauna nearby, and all the items encourage and underline the joy of self-care routines.

In March 2023, the BASTUA collection will be available in all IKEA stores while supplies last.
